Colin Denehy
Singer-Actor-Dancer
UP NEXT…
Colin will be flying south for the winter to Ft. Myers, FL! He will be appearing in the ensemble of Crazy for You at The Broadway Palm.
Bold. Witty. Captivating.
Colin is a force of a performer sure to make an impact wherever he is cast. With an early knack for comedy, Colin is extremely adept at making an audience laugh until it hurts. He particularly finds a niche in high brow, period piece comedies like Anything Goes and The Drowsy Chaperone. Starting in classical voice and choral music in middle school, he developed a very strong technique that allows him to fit his voice to any genre. He is a tenor with a high belt and strong legit, also having a talent for high Irish tenor-style legit lines and belted falsetto/mix notes (which he is able to pull out every once in a while, like when he performed as a gender-bent “Turn Back, O Man” in Godspell, singing in the original octave). His classical training gave him the tools to feel very comfortable in a Golden Age, legato style when he performed in roles such as the high tenor of the Cockney Quartet in My Fair Lady and the disgruntled waiter in She Loves Me. He is able to use this strong technique to divert into a strong belt to use in a pop/rock setting, which he put to use when performing in shows like Footloose and Escape to Margaritaville.
His favorite musical, Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party, informed his love for dark, sultry, period comedy-dramas like Cabaret and Pippin. While he is capable and well-prepared for performing in a principal or featured role, he also is well experienced as a dance ensemble member, getting to perform in the ensembles of shows renowned for their iconic dance scenes and tap numbers such as Pippin, Anything Goes, and Crazy for You (performed with Susan Stroman’s original choreography). He is also experienced and very skilled in performing within these ensembles while also maintaining a cover or understudy track. Colin is eager to perform in shows that both help him to hone in on his strengths and also expand his skillset and knowledge of the musical theatre cannon.
about colin
Ever since he can remember, theatre has always been a part of Colin’s life. Even when he was too young to be considered for the elementary school musicals (much to his chagrin), he was still screaming Mamma Mia and High School Musical from every room in the house. Born and raised in Hebron, Kentucky, a small suburb at the very top of the state, rolling green hills and bluegrass on the radio was part of everyday life and, although he hated it at the time, country music still makes him think of home. Located just a 15 min drive away, Cincinnati, Ohio is a vibrant center for the arts with quite an amazing theatre scene for a mid-size Midwestern city. Colin found so much joy in his youth (and whenever he’s back to visit) attending touring shows at The Aronoff Center as well as productions at the various incredible regional theatres around the city. In the fourth grade, Colin was introduced to his home away from home, Moss Dance and Performing Arts Academy. From then on, he was involved in many voice, acting, and dance classes as well as performing in every winter and spring musical all the way up until graduation. It was here that he found an early love for Broadway-style tap dance, enjoying performing in the many heavy-tap shows selected for the season like Anything Goes and Mary Poppins.
Colin then moved on to attend school at The Hartt School in West Hartford, CT, where he spent four years diving head first into his musical theatre training and performing in a diverse array of musicals in various types of roles, shattering what he had always believed was his set “type”. He received his BFA in Musical Theatre in May of 2024. Colin moved to New York in October of 2024 and has been ready to dive head first into the industry ever since, attending as many auditions, calls, and classes as he can (and the occasional Broadway show).
